"Belonging, Blinded Choices" is an exploration of choice-making as a means of belonging, highlighting the intricate relationship between individual agency and collective identity. By examining spirituality, gender identity, values and customs, this work seeks to illuminate how these aspects shape our affiliations and experiences within various groups. The interplay of choices—both self-directed and imposed—reveals the profound consequences they can have, influencing our sense of identity and community in ways that could lead to empowerment or alienation. Through my lens, this work adeptly illustrates the nuanced dynamics of belonging and the powerful impact of choices on our lives and relationships with others.

GUGULETHU NDLALANI
Gugulethu Ndlalani is a self-taught visual artist and photographer from Soweto, South Africa, born on September 20, 1998. His work is deeply influenced by the rich cultural heritage of Soweto, a township renowned for its historical significance and vibrant stories.
As the creative director of a collaborative project called BrokenVillages, Gugulethu focuses on storytelling that reflects the African narrative, particularly the experiences of Black individuals who navigate the complexities of daily life. Photography serves as a medium for addressing various social issues that either directly or indirectly affect his life and the lives of those around him. Gugulethu's artistic talent has been recognised both locally and internationally. He has participated in significant exhibitions, including the TTLC Portrait Show in 2023 and the Launca Festival in 2021, showcasing his work to diverse audiences. His achievements also include being featured in the World's Artists Scope Spotlight in Canada and serving as a guest exhibitor at Artcakula 78. Additionally, he was awarded a scholarship for the ACT program and completed a residency in Finland with Salarakas, further honing his skills and expanding his artistic vision. Most recently, he was a participant in the RMB Talent Unlocked mentorship program, where he continues to develop his craft.
Drawing inspiration from the resilience of everyday individuals, Gugulethu highlights the struggles and triumphs of those striving to make a living, regardless of their circumstances. His photography not only captures moments but also serves as a powerful commentary on the human experience, offering an authentic perspective on life in contemporary African contexts.
