And every morning became different. Before, in their home villages, children, both girls and boys, went to school at dawn. They lived in villages with fertile soil, where they could help their parents in the fields. Food had never been a problem, as they were a people who lived from agriculture. But suddenly, one dark day changed everything: the war forced thousands of people to abandon their villages, their fields, their schools, their homes, and their first hopes.
Since then, every morning has become different. Those dreams and talents that once shone in the schools found themselves locked in makeshift tents, where courageous children and their families had to begin begging for food, clothing and survival. Yet, beyond these difficult living conditions, the hope and dream of a better day never ceased to shine in their eyes. Their hope was not shattered by bullets; it continued to live and inspire. The dream did not die.

The Creative

ELISHA ABUMBA
Elisha Abumba is a young photographer and videographer, born and raised in Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His passion for photography grew out of his experiences—living between recurring war and an active volcano, and witnessing the beauty of a resilient city, both poetic and touristic. He had one desire: to find a channel through which he could express the complexity of his feelings and leave a historical legacy for future generations. He does this through art. He documents everyday life that reveals courage, follows ordinary heroes, and strives to show the resilience of people facing difficult times.
