DAWIT TAMRAT
Dawit Tamrat is an Ethiopian visual artist whose practice spans painting, graphic design, and cartoon animation. After finishing high school, he pursued his passion for art by enrolling at the Teferi Mekonen (TMS) School of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 2011. He later studied printmaking at the Addis Ababa University (ALE) School of Fine Art and Design. His formal training equipped him with strong technical and academic skills that continue to shape his artistic expression.
Dawit enjoys experimenting with various art forms and has participated in several group exhibitions. In 2024, he held a solo exhibition at Fendika Gallery.
His work explores contrasts between differing ideas through the recurring subject of houses. By using this motif, Dawit seeks to highlight both the positive and negative aspects of life. As he explains, “Homes are a reflection of upbringing and identity, and they often mirror our personalities and attitudes.” Through layered imagery, he examines themes of identity, belonging, and displacement, inviting viewers to reconsider how they perceive space, self, and environment.
